Inguina & Ventral Hernia

Introduction to Inguina & Ventral Hernia

Inguinal hernias involve the protrusion of tissues or organs through weakened areas of the abdominal wall.

It occurs in the groin when a portion of intestine or abdominal tissue bulges out into the inguinal canal which normally contains spermatic cord in men, or round ligament in women. Men are at a higher risk for this type because of natural weakness around their inguinal canals due to testes’ descent during fetal stage.

On the other hand, ventral hernias develop within the abdominal wall, usually at sites where muscle has been already weakened by previous surgery or congenital defect.
