Introduction to Gall Bladder Cancer

Gallbladder malignancy refers to a relatively rare but severe case of cancer that occurs in gall bladder located below the liver shaped like a pear.

Normally beginning at internalmost layer of gallbladder it may spread to other organs and tissues later on.

The exact cause of this type of cancer is not fully understood but some factors such as age, gender (more common in women), race (more common among Native Americans), presence of gallstones or chronic inflammation in gallbladder called cholecystitis may raise one’s risk for getting it.

- If Detected early then can be cured

- High risk group are

1) Gallstones > 10 years in patients of migrants from north india ( Ganga's Belt)

2) Single large stone > 3cm

3) Gallbladder Polyp single > 1 cm or Multiple tiny polyps

4) Porceline Gallbladder

- 98% of Gallbladder cancer patient have Gallstones ..
