Esophagus Cancer

Introduction to Esophagus Cancer

The muscular tube connecting throat to stomach for facilitating food and liquids passage by swallowing is where malignant cells originate causing esophagus cancer.

A relatively uncommon yet very severe form of cancer having two primary subtypes namely squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinoma is usually found in the lower part of the patient’s esophagus where it is associated with long-term acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Conversely, squamous cell carcinoma tends to develop in the upper or middle parts of the esophagus and is often brought about by risk factors including smoking, heavy drinking, some eating habits.
